BEHIND THE LENS
Hello!
I'm Justyce Dority - passionate photographer, dog mom and advisor at KC Kids Photo.
Working with children has always been a big part of my life. I grew up babysitting, helping care for my younger brother and I have loved watching my niece and nephew grow over the years. Being surrounded by children from a young age taught me patience, adaptability and how to connect with kids at every stage. While I do not have children of my own yet, these experiences have shaped the way I interact with students and deepened my respect for the trust families place in us.
During photoshoots, I am calm, patient and observant... taking the time to read the room and meet each child where they are. Every school, classroom and student is different, so I adjust my approach to fit both the environment and the child in front of me. I never rush or force moments, especially on busy photo days, because my priority is creating a predictable, low-stress experience where students and staff feel comfortable and supported. I have experience with children who are shy, energetic, emotional, or easily distracted and I know how to gently redirect and reassure without pressure. I care more about genuine expressions than perfect poses, because when children feel safe and valued, their personalities naturally shine through, creating meaningful photographs.
I have been working with KC Kids for over six years and this role is truly more than just a job to me. It is a place where I feel supported, encouraged to grow and allowed to be myself. I value working alongside coworkers and leadership who prioritize teamwork, authenticity and relationships. One of the most meaningful parts of my role is building genuine connections with schools and families and being a familiar, trusted presence they can rely on year after year.
My responsibilities extend well beyond photo day. In addition to photographing students, I assist with office support, including communicating with schools, answering questions and coordinating scheduling and future picture days in a way that best fits each school’s calendar. Being involved both behind the scenes and on picture day allows me to help create a smooth, organized experience from start to finish.
Outside of KC Kids, I own and operate my own photography business, Justyce Dority Photography, where I work with families, seniors and pets. I am also continuing my education through an online program and plan to graduate in 2027 to obtain a degree in photography. Balancing school, work and my business has strengthened my time management skills, dedication and commitment to continued growth.
When I'm not behind the camera, much of my time is spent with my family and my two dogs, who bring constant energy and joy into my life. One of them is full of personality and never stops moving, often jumping around like a kangaroo and keeping me on my toes. Life with my dogs has taught me flexibility, patience and how to stay calm in unpredictable moments, skills that carry directly into my work with children. I also enjoy unwinding by catching up on TV shows and movies, which helps me recharge and show up fully present for every picture day.
I am grateful to be part of a team that values children, schools, and families and I am honored to help create positive experiences and meaningful memories through photography!
